Just picked up this 1982 Schwinn Traveler. It had been hanging upside down in a garage unused for the past ten years. Other than being really, really, dirty it was in almost perfect condition. The wheels were still true and it shifted perfectly. Even the original bar tape is in tact. I spent about four hours total cleaning it. I put new tires on it and switched out the reflectors. The old reflectors were ridiculous, bigger than the headlight from an 80's Volvo. I'll just service the hubs and bottom bracket and it should be good to go.

Museum quality! How does it ride?
ReplyDeleteI have an '82 grey/light green model - it too has been idle for years and I am refurbishing it. Wheels rims are true but shifting is tight and the rear hub needs to be cleaned and repacked with grease. I am riding the original tires but the gum sidewall is melting away.
